History

The School of Foreign Languages was established by the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 2011/2276 dated 6/9/2011. Compulsory foreign language and vocational foreign language courses have been conducted in the faculties, colleges and vocational schools affiliated to our University, within the framework of the principles determined by the "Regulation on the Principles to be Followed in Teaching Foreign Languages and Teaching in Foreign Languages in Higher Education Institutions" since the 2010-2011 Academic Year. With the official letter dated 26.12.2017 and numbered 238966, foreign language (English) preparatory education started to be provided within The School of Foreign Languages. Since the Spring Term of the 2023-2024 Academic Year, the School of Foreign Languages has been conducting the compulsory foreign language courses common to the Faculties, Schools and Vocational Schools of our university through distance education within the Rectorate.  

Foreign language preparatory education is conducted for students who are enrolled in faculties' departments with compulsory professional foreign language (English) preparatory programs and who have not taken the foreign language proficiency exam at the beginning of the academic year or who have taken but failed. Compulsory vocational foreign language preparatory education, which started in the 2017-2018 Academic Year, is carried out in Sabire Yazıcı Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of English Language and Literature and Faculty of Education, Department of English Language Teaching. In addition, optional foreign language (English) preparatory education is conducted in all faculties offering undergraduate education.
